Abstracts of Diocese of Lichfield and Coventry marriage licence allegations, 1837 to 1880.
Where marriages were to take place by licence (rather than after the calling of banns), allegations supporting the licence application were made and bonds were entered into. Below are abstracts from surviving allegations of the Diocese of Lichfield and Coventry, relating to marriages which were to take place at Waters Upton and/or where one or both parties were of that parish. This first batch of abstracts covers the period 1837 to 1880. In due course I hope to add abstracts of allegations (and bonds) for earlier years.
Note that marriages did not necessarily take place after the issue of a licence, and may not have taken place at the place intended, although in most cases they did.
Unless otherwise stated, the person making the allegation signed their name.
