The 1881 census shows John Buttery and his wife Mary (daughter of John and Mary Ann Martin) living at Coolmoor, Stanton Upon Hine Heath, with their daughter Edith Amy Martin. Edith had been born in the parish of Ercall Magna in 1880, evidently before the marriage of her parents, which was registered in the September quarter of that year. John and Mary had another daughter, Elizabeth Beatrice Buttery, who was born in 1882 but died aged 5 in 1888, just two years after the death of her sister Edith.
