Memorial Inscriptions in St Michael’s church

These pages look at the memorial (or monumental) inscriptions inside the church of Waters Upton St Michael. I missed at least one – the dedication of a stained glass window to Walter Llewelyn Davies – when I was taking photographs earlier this month (October 2023) and I may have missed others. The two pages in this section, which list the various inscriptions and dedications in order according to the walls on which I found them, are therefore not (yet) complete.

● MIs on East and South church walls

● MIs on West and North church walls

In addition to the memorial inscriptions with the main body of the church, there is a brass plaque in the porch remembering the men of the parish who served during the Great War; this will appear in World War 1 – They Also Served.

The porch itself was built in memory of the Rev John Bayley Davies, and a dedication to him appears above the entrance:

+ TO THE GLORY OF GOD +
IN MEMORY OF THE REV: J. B. DAVIES. A.D. 1909
