IN
LOVING MEMORY
OF
MARGARET,
DAUGHTER OF
ROBERT AND ELIZABETH HYDE
OF MEOLE BRACE,
[Rest of inscription obscured]
My research suggests that Margaret was born in 1853 at Stayley in Cheshire. The 1881 census shows Margaret, aged 26, living with her parents Robert Hyde, 58, a woollen manufacturer employing 40 work people (also born at Stayley) and Elizabeth Hyde, 62, born at Great Lyth in the parish of Condover, Shropshire, along with Margaret’s sister Elizabeth, 16, born at Meole Brace in Shropshire.
Margaret’s mother Elizabeth may have been the Elizabeth Edmunds whose marriage was registered at Shrewsbury in the June quarter of 1847, volume 6a page 266, along with that of a Robert Hyde, in which case she was baptised at Condover on 4 Oct 1818, daughter of Edward Edmunds and his wife Elizabeth (further possible evidence of this is that Robert and Elizabeth Hyde had a son named William Edmund Hyde).
The death of Margaret Hyde was registered at Wellington, Shropshire in the December quarter of 1893, when she was 40.
